During her participation in the «Artist in island», Justine Emard explored the territory of Iki island through archeology, history and fiction. Her works create some imaginary connections with the origins of the civilization through the sea and following the mysterious lights which appear at the surface of the water.
This wallpaper was made from photographs of the ink stains on the fishing boats. When a fisherman kills the squid, the ink goes out and creates some beautiful and terrifying patterns. Our brain can find some recognizable shapes in the abstract patterns.
Pareidolia is a psychological phenomenon in which the mind responds to a stimulus, usually an image or a sound, by perceiving a familiar pattern where none exists, like seeing rabbits in the moon.
