Iki City Ikikoku Museum ー Nagasaki Prefectural Archaeological Center
& Koganemaru Art Museum

During her participation in the «Artist in island» program, Justine Emard explored the territory of Iki island through archeology, history and ction. Her works create some imaginary connections with the origins of the civilization through the sea and following the mysterious lights which appear at the surface of the water.
The title of her exhibition, 暁 (Akatsuki) – La Nuit des Temps, is inspired by a novel by the french writer Rene Barjavel. This science ction story relates a French expedition in Antarctica, revealing the ruins of a 900,000 year old civilization that is more advanced than our own.
In her creations, Justine Emard captures fragments of reality and connects them to create new stories.

ジュスティーヌ・エマールは、「アーティスト・イン・アイランド」に参加する中で、考古学、歴史及びフィクションという観点から、壱岐という地域を探究した。彼女の作品は、海と海面に現れる神秘的な光を通した文明の源との想像上の結びつきを創り出している。

ジュスティーヌ・エマールによる「暁（あかつき）- La Nuit des Temps」と題
された作品は、フランスの小説家であるルネ・バルジャベルによる、南極探検に
行ったフランス人が、そこで、現在よりもはるかに進んだ９０万年前の文明の遺
跡を発見するというサイエンスフィクションに影響を受けている。ジュスティー
ヌ・エマールは、その作品の中で、断片的な現実を捉え、そこから新たなストー
リーを紡ぎ出す。
